HCC Guitar Series with Ben Lougheed
Student Services Auditorium, DSTU 111
The HCC Guitar Series provides an opportunity for our community to experience the artistry of world-class musicians right here at HCC's Dale Mabry Campus. Sponsored by the campus Student Government Association, the series has been fortunate to host classical guitarists including Pepe Romero, Jason Vieaux, members of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Jorge Caballero, Beijing Duo, SoloDuo and Carlos Barbosa-Lima. The series also includes the first prize winner of the Guitar Foundation of America’s International annual guitar competition along with other talented performers whose classical guitar careers are ascending.
American classical guitarist and entrepreneur Ben Lougheed’s playing has been described as “extremely precise” while having “dramatic power and lyric beauty.” Ben has performed as a guest soloist at guitar societies, universities, and concert series around the United States and has been featured on several radio and television programs. Ben has been awarded numerous prizes including the Charlie Byrd Memorial Endowed Scholarship in guitar, The Frank Longay Memorial Scholarship, and multiple grants from the Rislov Foundation. He has also been invited to present by the Guitar Foundation of America, the Tallahassee Council on Culture and Arts, and the Florida Guitar Festival, and was one of only two musicians chosen for the Knight Foundation’s inaugural Tallahassee Arts Entrepreneurs Institute. His debut album will feature music that was either written or influenced by three prominent Baroque composers, Bach, Handel, and Scarlatti. It is set to be released in summer 2019.
All Guitar Series events are free for current students, staff and faculty. Just bring your Hawk Card ID. General admission is $15.
